| 1959-1963 |
Joel founded El Conjunto America in Chicago, Illinois
During this period, he worked with Los Zunigas
Los Orientales de Noel Garza
The group was composed of brothers: Noel, lead singer and first accordionist,
Moses, drums, Jaime, bajo sexto, and Jose Jr. as second accordion |
| 1963-1966 |
Mel Moran changed their name o Conjunto Los Orientales de Los Hermanos Garza.
Joel returned to Pearsall from Chicago, took over the group
and became the group’s lead singer. |
| 1966 |
Anselmo Martinez dropped Conjunto Los Orientales and they became
Los Hermanos Garza and started recording for Chimiro Records. |
| 1976 |
Noel and Jaime left the group to start ther own business and the group
continued with Moses taking over the helm. Jose Jr. became the lead singer and
Joel settled into the background as lead accordionist. |
| 1980 |
Jose Jr. left the group to o into farmind and Jerry Balderrama, abass player,
replaced Jose. Incidentall, from 1975 to 1980 the group conentrated on the club
circuit thereby taking a sabbatical from recording studios. |
| March 1983 |
Balderrama was kiled in a car accident. Tony “El Leon” Maldonado replaced Balderrama
and Joel resumed his previous role as a lead singer with some help rom Maldonado on vocals. |
| March 1986 |
Jesse “Chuy” Flores joined the group as lead singer. |
| July 5, 1986 |
Manny Guerra changed their name to MOSES to reflect their new sound, style and image.
MOSES is Flores, lead singer, Moses, bass, Joel, first accordion,
Joel Rangel, keyboards; Mateo Perez, guitar and Leo Otegon on drums.
Moses Garza II, Joel’s son, is already sitting in on accordion at various gigs. |
